Soft furnishings hold onto everything a hard surface lets go of — cooking smells, pet odour, sweat, spilled drinks and years of ordinary body oils. A sofa can look acceptable and still be the reason a room does not smell fresh, which is why cleaning the room around it never quite works.

Method follows the fabric
The first thing we do is check the manufacturer’s cleaning code, because the wrong method on the wrong fabric causes damage that cannot be undone — water rings on a solvent-only fabric, shrinkage on natural fibres, or dye bleed on a loose cover. Where a piece is unlabelled or delicate, we test in a concealed area first. If we do not think a piece can be cleaned safely, we will tell you.
Pet odour
Surface cleaning removes the smell temporarily; the cause is usually deeper in the padding. Treating it properly means an enzyme treatment that breaks the residue down rather than masking it, and enough drying time afterwards. Set expectations for a severe case: significant improvement is realistic, complete elimination from a saturated cushion often is not, and replacing the foam is sometimes the honest answer.
Drying
Allow four to eight hours before normal use, longer for dense cushions or in humid weather. Air movement through the room makes a considerable difference — we will tell you what to leave open.

How long until I can use the furniture again?
Typically four to eight hours. We will give you a realistic figure for your specific pieces before we leave.
Will old stains come out completely?
Some will, some will not. Fresh, water-based spills usually come out fully. Old stains, dye transfer and anything previously treated with a supermarket spot cleaner are less predictable — a spot cleaner often sets a stain permanently. We will tell you what we expect before starting.
Do you clean wall-to-wall carpet?
We focus on upholstery and area rugs. Rugs are cleaned in place in your home.
Is it safe around pets and children?
Yes. Tell us in advance if anyone in the home has allergies or sensitivities and we will select products accordingly.
